China has started issuing “identity cards” to humanoid robots.

Modern.az reports that TNW platform has released information about this.

More than 28,000 robots have already been registered. China has launched a new national identification system for the management and tracking of humanoid robots. Under the new system, each humanoid robot is assigned a unique 29-character identification code that allows tracking its entire life cycle from production to utilization. Currently, more than 28,000 robots across more than 200 models are registered in the system.

The platform, called “Humanoid Full Lifecycle Management Service Platform,” was created by the standardization committee operating under China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Although the system resembles the country's citizen identity card model, it has wider capabilities for storing additional information specific to robots. The new identification code covers the robot's manufacturer, model, serial number, technical specifications, artificial intelligence level, software training date, and production records. In addition, the system also monitors the robot's technical condition in real time.

The rapid growth of the humanoid robot industry in China has made this step necessary. More than 100 humanoid robot manufacturers are already operating in the country. In 2025, investments in robotics and “embodied intelligence” reached $3.4 billion by the end of May, which is 42% higher than the US figure and approximately 5 times more than Europe.
