One of the inevitable consequences of declining birth rates and increasing life expectancy is a change in the age structure of the population.
Modern.az reports that currently, in almost all countries of the world, the average age is rising, and the share of elderly people (65 years and older) in the population is increasing.
Among large countries, Japan ranks first in this indicator. Here, the share of people over 65 already accounts for 30 percent of the total population.
The lowest indicators are recorded in Saudi Arabia (3 percent) and the United Arab Emirates (2 percent). This is mainly explained by the fact that a large part of the population in these countries consists of migrants of working age who have come to work temporarily.
