France national team striker Kylian Mbappe has become the most prolific scorer in the history of World Cups.
Modern.az reports that the 27-year-old footballer scored a brace in the third-place match against the England national team at the 2026 World Cup, bringing his total goals in World Cups to 22.
With this, he set a new record, surpassing Argentine Lionel Messi, who has 21 goals, in the list of top scorers in World Cup history.
In third place on the list is former German national team striker Miroslav Klose with 16 goals. Among active footballers, England national team striker Harry Kane is in fourth place with 14 goals.
It should be noted that Mbappe has been playing for Spain's "Real" club since 2024. He is a 2018 World Cup champion and a 2022 World Cup silver medalist with the French national team.
