The views circulated about the Ministry of Culture's intention to close libraries do not reflect the truth.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Minister of Culture Adil Karimli in an interview with “Real TV”.
The Minister noted that the main goal is to increase the quality of services in the field of culture and expand access to books. According to him, a new approach to libraries is currently being formed:
“Today there is a different approach than closing libraries. The goal is to ensure the usefulness of libraries and access to books.”
The Minister emphasized that the creation of a new library system and a wide library network based on digitalization is envisaged:
“The goal is for books to be accessible to everyone. People should be able to easily get a book when they want to use it.”
He added that a roadmap has already been prepared in this direction and detailed information will be provided to the public soon:
“Our goal is to further expand the functionality, service and scope of libraries.”
