Ratko Mladić, former commander of the General Staff of the Bosnian Serb army, who was found guilty of genocide and sentenced to life imprisonment, has died.
Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that 84-year-old Mladić was arrested in Serbia in 2011 and handed over to the Hague tribunal.
Mladić had previously applied for early release, citing his deteriorating health. He has been treated in a prison hospital for the past two years and has been bedridden.
Mladić, who was accused of war crimes committed during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992-1995, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hague tribunal on November 22, 2017.
The tribunal found him guilty of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
