On May 1, 1925, the foundation stone of the S. Razin Workers' Village was laid in Baku for oil field workers.
According to Modern.az, the area, later known as “Razin”, has been known for many years as one of the settlements closely associated with the oil and working life of Baku.
S. Razin Workers' Village was considered one of the first large residential areas created for people working in the oil industry. Mainly workers employed in mines and industrial enterprises and their families settled here. Thus, every year on May 2, the “Krasnaya gorka” (“Mayovka”) festival was held on the “Razin” hill in honor of that memorable event. People came to the festival from various parts of Baku, as well as from all villages. Families and friends gathered here.
Various sports competitions were organized and concert programs were presented within the framework of the festival. “Mayovka” has been remembered for many years as one of the traditional mass recreation and holiday events for Baku residents.
