We are also trying to make issues related to climate change a part of the discussions within the forum.
Modern.az reports that Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, and national coordinator of WUF13, stated these views at a press conference held within the forum.
He noted that we are currently evaluating the past 10 years of the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and should also look at the next 10 years. I believe that we can already start talking about a new urban climate agenda for the next decade.
“In fact, the first two days of the forum showed us completely different weather conditions, which is also a result of climate change. To be honest, as someone who grew up in Baku, I have never seen so much rain in May. This is not natural, but this is the reality. That is why such discussions and forums are important. We must find ways to adapt to climate change.”
He also emphasized that regarding the post-conflict recovery process and our “Great Return” program, this direction is already attracting the interest of many international organizations and partners:
“Azerbaijan has successfully passed a number of complex stages in a short period of time. Combating the mine problem, as well as carrying out complex planning work in parallel in large areas, and implementing projects in 12 cities and hundreds of villages is indeed a huge amount of work. This is not just planning. We try to take into account all modern trends and recommendations. Our goal is not only to build houses and bring people back, but to create a new quality of life in those areas.”
The national coordinator also added that the management model, institutional approach, and reforms implemented by President Ilham Aliyev in Azerbaijan are a unique example.
“Currently, approximately 90,000 people already live, work, and study in universities in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur.
All this also attracts the attention of international partners. Yesterday, in just one day, we had interesting discussions with representatives from Syria, Ukraine, and other countries. I am sure that there will be various presentations and discussions within the forum regarding the work done in Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, today the number of conflict-affected areas in the world is greater than before. This makes it necessary to discuss how life will be restored in those lands,” A. Guliyev noted.
