Tensions in the war between the US and Iran are increasing with each passing hour. The US declares that it has already destroyed Iran's military capabilities. However, on the other hand, Iran intends to put the US in a difficult position by using the Strait of Hormuz card. Although the US has requested assistance from European countries regarding the opening of the strait, it has not received a positive response. Precisely for this reason, against the backdrop of economic difficulties, the issue of the US entering Iran by land has come to the fore.

In a statement to Modern.az, former ambassador Nasib Nasibli stated that the US currently seeks to change the Iranian regime, but the current military operations are not sufficient for this:

"The goal of the military operations launched on February 28 was not the overthrow of the regime. However, after the killing of the country's Supreme Leader, the issue of regime change came to the fore. Even now, the regime is not changing. But the American military machine has significantly weakened Iran's military power. Specifically, the US has destroyed Iran's naval fleet, its air defense system, and its air force. But this is not enough to change the regime. Because the Iranian regime demonstrates its readiness to defend its existence and fight to the end. That is why this issue of islands has emerged. Currently, there is an American military force of approximately 50,000 in the region. Additionally, 17,000 troops have been deployed to the region, and another 10,000 soldiers are en route. Now, let's see what happens? In my opinion, even if there is no repeat of the miracle of February 28, American strategic thinking nevertheless believes in the successful completion of these operations. Let's see what happens. It is a very interesting issue."

According to the former ambassador, there will be no ground military intervention in Iran:

"Most likely, there will be no ground operation. It is highly probable that Iran's air base in Bandar Abbas and its naval fleet will be completely destroyed. After that, a number of islands, including Kharg Island, may be captured. I reiterate that there will be no military operations on Iran's own territory, because this would require a large army of hundreds of thousands. That is, the presence of 40-50 thousand special forces there is not sufficient for this objective. For example, the capture of Kharg Island is a collapse for Iran, but the issue of the Strait of Hormuz is more important for the global economy. Europe does not support the US on the strait issue either. However, I believe that the US military power will be sufficient to resolve the issue."
