The unrest in Iran will deepen the chasm between President Masoud Pezeshkian and conservatives.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by political scientist Elkhan Shahinoglu.

He noted that Pezeshkian, a few days before the unrest, had admitted that the situation in the country was severe and that he had not achieved positive change:

"The fuse of the current unrest in Iran was ignited by that very statement from the President. After the protest marches began, Pezeshkian called on the police to act with restraint and on government members to engage in dialogue with the protesters. The problem is that there is no single center organizing the marches and protests, so government members cannot determine with whom they should negotiate.

Furthermore, the conservatives are already “at work” and dialogue does not benefit them. Protesters are being shot at, and reports of fatalities are increasing. This means that the President's proposal for dialogue will not succeed for various reasons. Conservatives advocate for radical measures against the protesters, and they are not subordinate to the President. Protesters are not chanting slogans against the President, because they also understand that the power they face is not affiliated with the President. Nevertheless, the intensification of conservatives shooting at protesters will put Masoud Pezeshkian in a difficult position. Since he cannot find a way out of the current situation, he might consider resignation".
