Venezuela's opposition leader María Corina Machado presented US President Donald Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize medal he was awarded in 2025 during her visit to the White House.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that Machado announced the handover of the award after the meeting.
The talks took place in Washington and lasted for more than two hours.
Commenting on the visit, Machado stated that Donald Trump "is committed to the freedom of Venezuela's political prisoners and all Venezuelans" and understands the country's potential as a future US ally.
She recalled a symbolic historical episode and linked it to the current award ceremony.
Machado told journalists after the meeting, "I told President Trump that 200 years ago, General Lafayette gave Simón Bolívar a medal with the image of President George Washington. Since then, Simón Bolívar never parted with it. 200 years later, the people of Bolívar present the President of the United States of America, the heir of Washington, with a Nobel Prize medal in recognition of his commitment to our freedom."
Donald Trump confirmed that he accepted the award.
