“High-ranking officials of the Republic of Armenia have always assured us of Armenia's good intentions".

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Khalil Shirgholami, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia.

"Iran has started negotiations with the US with full sincerity and seriousness. Although we have all capabilities for defense, we prioritize diplomacy. We believe that common sense can prevail...
High-ranking representatives of the Republic of Armenia have always assured us of Armenia's good intentions. They hope that a situation that could threaten security in the region will not arise”.

The Ambassador noted that this is also Iran's desire - for peace to prevail in the South Caucasus.

In response to a question regarding Iran's view on America's expanded presence in the region through the TRIPP mechanism, the Ambassador stated:

"We hope for these opportunities that Armenia is positively implementing. Today I met with the President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan. In a very warm and friendly atmosphere, we discussed the importance of making efforts to open north-south and east-west communication routes. We also noted the importance of working on the launch of the Julfa-Nakhchivan-Yeraskh railway to establish a connection between the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea. This will create great opportunities for all of us.

The Armenian leadership has stated that no steps will be taken against Iran. Perhaps it is too early to talk about this now, but we can consider it very seriously in the future."

Regarding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's upcoming visit to Iran, the Ambassador said: "Nikol Pashinyan's visit is included in our 2026 agenda and should be planned within a year. Last year, the Iranian president visited Armenia, and this year we are also planning the visit of the Armenian Prime Minister. We hope that a comprehensive strategic document will be signed between the two countries during this visit".
