The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is working to arm Kurdish forces in Iraq to foment an uprising in Iran.
Modern.az reports that this information was disseminated by “Wall Street Journal”, “Al Arabiya" and some other foreign media outlets.
According to many sources familiar with the plan, the Trump administration is actively negotiating with Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq for military support.
Iranian Kurdish armed groups have thousands of fighters operating along the Iran-Iraq border, mainly in Iraqi Kurdistan. Since the beginning of the war, several groups have issued statements indicating desertions from the Iranian army and calling on the Iranian army to withdraw.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump also spoke with Mustafa Hijri, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran. A high-ranking Iranian Kurdish official told CNN about this. Iranian Kurdish opposition forces are expected to participate in a ground operation in western Iran in the coming days.
The source added that Iranian Kurdish opposition forces hope for the support of the US and Israel.
