Chicken meat is the most consumed type of meat in the world, and its global popularity is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.
Modern.az reports that Financial Times wrote about this. According to the publication, 76.2 billion chickens were raised in the world in 2023. In 2006, this figure was 48.3 billion.
The main share in the increase of chicken production falls on the Asia-Pacific region, followed by America and Europe. China and the US together account for approximately one-third of the global demand for chicken meat.
The publication notes that for most of the 20th century, chicken meat, which was relatively expensive and consumed in limited quantities, became one of the main protein sources in the world in the 21st century. Experts believe that the "chicken peak" has not yet been reached.
Among the main reasons for the popularity of chicken meat are its more affordable price compared to other types of meat, its efficiency in converting feed, its rapid growth, and its easy adaptation to various cuisines.
In addition, chicken meat faces fewer cultural and religious restrictions than pork and beef. This feature has allowed it to spread widely in various countries around the world.
Financial Times writes that in 2022, chicken meat surpassed pork in terms of production volume. In recent years, the growth rate of global chicken production has also accelerated.
