Iran is ready for talks with the US, but "within the framework of the rule of law."

Modern.az reports that President Masoud Pezeshkian stated this during a phone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

During his phone conversation with Emmanuel Macron, he discussed the latest developments in the region, the ongoing talks in Islamabad, and the prospects for a ceasefire agreement.

Pezeshkian once again noted Iran's adherence to international law and its engagement in dialogue only within recognized legal frameworks. He stated that diplomacy is the primary choice for Tehran based on national dignity and sovereignty, and emphasized that Iran has clearly laid out its demands for a ceasefire and remains committed to this position.

Masoud Pezeshkian stated that any threat to the security of the Strait of Hormuz would have serious consequences for global trade and emphasized Iran's consistent efforts to ensure safe passage in this strategic waterway.

Referring to the talks held in Islamabad on April 11, Pezeshkian said that the Iranian delegation sought to reach a lasting agreement with serious and good intentions. However, he stated that despite certain technical understandings, excessive demands and the lack of political will from high-ranking US officials prevented the talks from reaching a final conclusion.

Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of adhering to international norms, noting that Europe could encourage the US to respect these frameworks.

He also reaffirmed Iran's strategic approach aimed at strengthening regional peace, stability, and cooperation with neighboring countries, stating that policies based on pressure or military threats further complicate problems.

Pezeshkian noted that Iran's conditions for a ceasefire were announced in advance and that Tehran remains committed to its obligations, a point also confirmed by Pakistani officials.

Touching upon the nuclear issue, Pezeshkian stated that Iran had previously reached certain agreements with European countries and is ready to continue talks within those frameworks.

Macron, in turn, emphasized the importance of including Lebanon in the initial ceasefire framework and explained France's position on Iran's nuclear issue, as well as legal concerns regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
