The house arrest of Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the "Strong Armenia" party and pro-Russian businessman, has been extended for another 3 months.
Modern.az reports, citing Armenian media, that the Anti-Corruption Court, chaired by Judge Vahe Dolmazyan, granted the prosecutor's motion and extended Samvel Karapetyan's house arrest.
The defense, in turn, filed a motion to change the pre-trial detention measure.
It should be noted that Samvel Karapetyan, who is protected by Russia, is considered one of the main rivals of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He wants to participate in the June 7 parliamentary elections and be elected as the new Prime Minister of Armenia.
For this purpose, he has started the process of renouncing all citizenships, with the exception of Armenian citizenship.
S. Karapetyan holds Russian and Cypriot citizenship.
