Iran announced that the first revenue from fees collected from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz has been transferred to the state treasury.

Modern.az reports that Abbas Papizadeh, a member of the Parliament's Presidium, told ISNA agency that payments collected from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz have been officially deposited into the Central Bank of Iran and from there transferred to the state treasury.

Papizadeh noted that the amount of the fee collected from ships varies depending on the type of ship and the nature of the cargo it carries. He added that this application is carried out taking into account the navigation conditions in the waterways.

Papizadeh, a member of the Parliament's Economic Commission, provided the following information regarding maritime routes in the region: Due to the shallowness of some parts of the coast on the Omani side, they are not suitable for ship traffic. Therefore, two routes remain. One of them is the median line between Iran and Oman, but it is currently not considered suitable for passage due to serious security problems. The second route is the one that enters Iran's coastal waters and is considered safer.

Papizadeh also emphasized that, according to international law, coastal states can demand transit fees from ships entering their territorial waters.

Regarding the use of the revenue obtained, he stated that these funds are included in the general budget as state revenue and how they will be spent will be decided later.
