An increase in water has been recorded around Lake Urmia in recent months. In the last six months, the water surface of the lake has expanded approximately fivefold, reaching 2350 square kilometers.
Modern.az reports that Majid Rastegari, head of the p responsible for water management in West Azerbaijan province, told journalists that the current hydrological year has been marked by different indicators for the region's ecosystem. Compared to six months ago, the lake's area has increased by more than 1870 square kilometers.
According to official data, the volume of water in the lake has reached 2 billion 890 million cubic meters. The water level is measured at 1270 meters 74 centimeters above sea level.
The representative of the institution noted that the recent increase in precipitation, the release of water from reservoirs, the cleaning of the beds of rivers flowing into the lake, and changes in irrigation methods are the main factors contributing to this increase.
