The US Senate has passed a resolution limiting President Donald Trump's military action capabilities against Iran.

Modern.az reports that the document was adopted in the Senate with the support of 50 senators, while 47 senators voted against it.

According to the resolution, the president will have to coordinate military operations with Congress. The fact that four Republican senators sided with the Democrats during the vote significantly affected the outcome.

It is reported that the previous seven attempts to pass this document in the Senate were blocked by Republicans. However, even if the document passes both chambers of Congress, Donald Trump still has the right to veto it.

According to the "War Powers Act" adopted in 1973, the US president can conduct military operations for 60 days without the permission of Congress. After that period, the operation must either be stopped or official permission must be obtained from Congress.

According to information, although Trump announced "the war is over" on May 1, 2026, stating that the 60-day period had expired, US forces continued to blockade Iranian ports and strike Iranian ships.
