US President Donald Trump criticized all previous American leaders, including George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden, who failed to compel NATO members to increase their military spending.
Modern.az reports that Trump made these remarks during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara.
"NATO countries were living comfortably at the expense of the US. If Biden had more sense, he would have demanded more payments from them. But he didn't. Obama didn't either. This issue should have been resolved years ago. Biden didn't, and frankly, Bush didn't either," Trump stated.
At this point, Rutte interrupted Trump, saying:
"But now, precisely thanks to you, this has happened. You accomplished what Eisenhower also tried to do – you equalized the military expenditures of Europe and the US. No US president achieved this; you were the first."
Trump immediately replied: "That's exactly why I like him."
