A person accused of mediating for Iran's intelligence service has been detained in the UK.

Modern.az reports that local law enforcement agencies have released information about this.

The 39-year-old man was accused of assisting Iran's intelligence service and charged with violating the National Security Act.

London's Counter Terrorism Police (CTP) arrested Liverpool resident Vahid Aberi in the Birmingham area on Wednesday on suspicion of violating this law.

"As formal charges have already been brought against the individual, we cannot provide detailed comments on the specifics of the allegations. However, I want to assure the public that no direct threat to citizens, any community, or specific individuals has been identified within the scope of this investigation," said Commander Helen Flanagan, head of London's Counter Terrorism Police Department.

Police stated that Vahid Aberi has been remanded in custody, and his first court hearing will take place on July 17 at Westminster Magistrates' Court.
