An Azerbaijani woman in Russia has restored her rights by winning a court case.
Modern.az reports, citing Russian media, that Raya Mamedova, a resident of Surgut, who was convicted of "inciting hatred," has successfully restored her Russian citizenship through the court, which she had been deprived of.
In the case materials, Raya Sabir gizi Mammadova's administrative claim regarding the invalidation of the decision to terminate her Russian citizenship was satisfied.
It should be recalled that the incident that led to Raya Mammadova's deprivation of citizenship occurred in the summer of 2022. A neighbor posted a video in a messenger chat group of the adjacent building, showing Raya Mammadova's children breaking the elevator in their building, and asked the parents to resolve the situation. Subsequently, a conflict arose among the residents.
The Russian prosecutor's office accused Raya Mammadova of insulting and threatening the other party. The court found her guilty and sentenced her to three years of probation. After the verdict, she was deprived of Russian citizenship.
Mammadova appealed this decision to the Khanty-Mansiysk District Court. The court determined that there was no basis for revoking her citizenship, considering that she had obtained Russian citizenship in childhood and had not taken an oath of allegiance. In February, the court granted the claim, and the appellate court later upheld the decision.
