Azerbaijani citizen Orkhan Mammadbayli, accused of murder in Poland, has been detained in Ukraine.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that Kyiv's Shevchenko District Court has ordered the arrest of 34-year-old Orkhan Mammadbayli for 40 days. He will be held in Lukyanovka Pre-trial Detention Center during this period.
According to the information, the decision was made on June 1 by Judge Vladimir Bugil. An appeal has currently been filed against this decision.
Investigation materials state that Orkhan Mammadbayli was detained in Kyiv on May 29. His arrest was based on information received from Polish law enforcement agencies via the SIENA system. According to this information, a European Arrest Warrant and an Interpol "red notice" had been issued for the Azerbaijani citizen.
The Polish side is holding Orkhan Mammadbayli responsible in connection with a murder that occurred in the center of Warsaw on February 22, 2025. That night, a dispute that began in a Georgian restaurant on Constitution Square later escalated into a mass brawl on the street.

During the incident, a 31-year-old Georgian citizen, David K., died from a stab wound to the chest. Two other people were wounded by stabs to the thigh and pelvis.
According to media reports, the incident is believed to be related to a settling of scores between ethnic criminal groups operating in Poland. However, the Warsaw Prosecutor's Office has officially announced only that several Georgian citizens have been detained and arrested by court order.
It is noted that on February 22, 2025, the Warsaw-Śródmieście District Court also issued an arrest warrant for Orkhan Mammadbayli.
