June 26 is celebrated as Armed Forces Day in Azerbaijan. In recent years, the number of women in the country's military and security system has also been increasing. They work not only in medical and administrative fields but also as officers, warrant officers, civil servants, police officers, and in leadership positions.
Modern.az presents statistical indicators regarding women working in the military and security system based on official information obtained from various state agencies.
One of the institutions with the most female employees is the Ministry of Defense. According to the Ministry, 329 female officers and warrant officers, and 1602 female military personnel serving beyond the conscription period, are active in the Azerbaijani Army. In addition, 10,218 female civilian employees work in the army. Four female military personnel and two female civilian employees are represented in leadership positions.
Women constitute 12 percent, or 4,134 people, of the employees serving in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The number of female employees in leadership positions is 64. In 2025, the number of women working in the Ministry of Internal Affairs increased by 2.3 percent compared to the previous year. Of the 2,406 people admitted to service that year, 115 were women.
The number of women in the Police Academy is also increasing. From 2020-2025, 24 of the 3,267 people admitted to the academy were women. In 2025 alone, the number of admitted women showed an increase compared to previous years.
In the State Security Service, measures are being continued to recruit women for military service and employment, as well as to promote them to responsible positions. Currently, women constitute 22 percent of the State Security Service employees. Of them, 38 work in leadership positions. For comparison, in 2024, this figure was 34 people.
In the State Border Service, women constituted 13 percent of the total staff of structural units in 2025. 1.52 percent of those in leadership positions were women.
In the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription, women make up 32 percent of the total staff. Women constitute 3 percent of those in leadership positions.
Official statistics show that women are increasingly represented in Azerbaijan's military and security system. They have become an integral part of the country's defense and security system as military personnel, police officers, and civil servants.
