Turkey will ban children under 15 from accessing social media.
Modern.az reports with reference to local media that the parliament has adopted a bill requiring social media platforms to implement age verification systems, provide parental control tools, and for companies to immediately react to content deemed harmful.
President Erdoğan had spoken a week ago about the importance of reducing online risks for children's safety and privacy after a 14-year-old child killed nine students and a teacher at a high school in Kahramanmaraş, southern Turkey. Police are investigating the online activities of the young person.
Last December, Australia became the first country to impose restrictions on social media access for children under 16. Last month, Indonesia began implementing measures to ban those under 16 from accessing platforms. Other countries, including Spain, France, and the UK, are also taking or considering similar measures.
