An allegation has spread that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian intends to resign. According to claims by the UK-based “Iran International” TV channel, M. Pezeshkian has officially addressed the country's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei regarding his intention to leave his post. However, the Iranian leadership has denied the TV channel's information.

In a statement to Modern.az, political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu stated that the rumors circulating about Masoud Pezeshkian's resignation have a basis:

“The news of Masoud Pezeshkian's resignation has been circulating for months, and there is a basis for it. Because Pezeshkian is being hindered in his country. He cannot carry out reforms. Although he tries to eliminate the consequences of the war, he is being prevented from doing so. All power is currently in the hands of SEPAH generals. During the war, although Pezeshkian was against striking neighboring states — Azerbaijan, Turkey, and the Gulf countries — SEPAH generals did as they pleased, striking wherever they wanted. At that time, deep disagreements arose between Pezeshkian and SEPAH generals. This continues even after the war. Because while Pezeshkian wants to continue negotiations with the US, SEPAH generals hold a different position.”

The political analyst noted that Pezeshkian is not strong enough to resolve the disagreements: “However, it is difficult to say whether Pezeshkian has actually written such a resignation letter. Writing a resignation letter would mean that Pezeshkian is shirking responsibility. But the truth is that a deep disagreement has indeed formed between Pezeshkian and the SEPAH generals who govern the country. And Pezeshkian is not strong enough to resolve these disagreements.”
