Minor migrants entering the US without adult accompaniment are presented with warning documents encouraging them to leave the country.
Modern.az reports that "The Guardian" has published information on this matter.
According to the newspaper, this document, referred to as “advice,” is either presented to or read aloud to children in the first days after crossing the US border, while they are still under the control of the US Customs and Border Protection Service and have not yet had the opportunity to reunite with relatives within the country.
The document states that if a child chooses to appeal to an immigration judge or declare fear of returning to their country of origin, they may be held under the control of the US government for a long time. Furthermore, if the person accompanying the child does not have legal status in the country, they may face criminal charges for “aiding illegal entry,” be arrested, and deported.
According to the text, if a child reaches the age of 18 while under state care, they may be transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and removed from the country.
