Bread prices are not expected to increase in Georgia in the near future.
According to Malkhaz Dolidze, head of the Georgian Bakers' Association, the prices of key ingredients have not yet changed, so bread prices remain stable.
According to him, a possible increase in electricity prices has not yet been calculated. Large mills primarily operate on electricity, while bakeries mainly use gas.
Wheat reserves in the country are sufficient: according to the Wheat and Flour Producers Association, there are two months' worth of transitional reserves. Local farmers store their produce in warehouses and are expected to start selling in spring – in March-April.
Russia remains the main supplier of wheat, although supplies from Kazakhstan have increased due to transport subsidies, making Kazakh wheat competitive.
Flour prices have been fluctuating around 58-60 lari for approximately a month. Industry officials propose a bread price index.
