US President Donald Trump regarded Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado's presentation of the Nobel Peace Prize medal to him as a sign of respect.
Modern.az reports that Trump wrote about this on his “Truth Social” network.
He stated that it was a great honor to meet Machado, who has been through a lot. The White House chief wrote: "Maria gave me her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done. This is such a wonderful sign of mutual respect. Thank you, Maria."
Machado presented the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump at a meeting held on January 15.
“Fox News” channel reported that the American leader accepted the award.
According to the decision of the Nobel Committee, the award cannot be canceled, divided, or given to another person.
Trump had previously stated that he did not want Machado to hand over the Nobel Peace Prize to him. He had repeatedly stated that he considered himself worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize, but on October 10, 2025, the Nobel Committee announced that the award had been given to Machado.
In early January, "The Washington Post" newspaper wrote that Trump had decided not to provide political support to Machado. The reason for this was stated to be Machado's refusal to decline the 2025 award in Trump's favor.
