Despite Trump's announcement of talks with Iran, the US is gathering troops in the Middle East.
Modern.az reports that "The New York Times" newspaper, citing sources in US military circles, states that the US is considering expanding its military presence in the Middle East amid preparations for a potential operation against Iran.
According to the publication, the US army is discussing the possibility of deploying approximately 3000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division in the region. They are expected to participate in an operation to seize Iran's Kharg Island with the support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. However, no official order has yet been received from the Pentagon or the US Central Command.
At the same time, a significant increase in military logistics has been recorded. Since March 12, at least 35 C-17 military transport aircraft have flown from the US to the Middle East, with another 11 aircraft currently conducting flights. Various branches of the armed forces, including the army, navy, and air force, are participating in the operation.
The main flights are being carried out from military bases in Georgia, Washington, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Virginia. Some flights are directed to camps in Israel, including Ovda Air Base, and to King Faisal and King Hussein Air Bases in Jordan.
The scale of the deployment indicates a significant increase in American military forces in the region. Furthermore, there are reports that units of the 82nd Airborne Division have begun moving from US territory towards the Middle East, which could indicate preparations for possible ground operations.
