In Singapore, a new punishment mechanism will be introduced in schools from 2027 to combat bullying (cases of violence and insults among students).

According to the information, according to the new rules, physical punishment with a stick is envisaged for students as a last resort in cases of bullying. Singapore's Minister of Education, Desmond Lee, stated that this measure will only be applied when all other disciplinary methods have failed.
According to the minister, the application of such punishments will be carried out with the approval of the school principal and will only be executed by authorized teachers. At the same time, factors such as the student's age and whether this punishment will affect their behavior will also be taken into account.
Desmond Lee noted that this step will serve to reduce bullying in schools and create a safer educational environment:
“This approach shows that children and adolescents make better decisions when they know that their behavior has serious consequences.”
