France, Ukraine, and eight other European countries have announced that they have started to create a joint defense coalition against ballistic missile threats.

The founders of the new initiative are Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and Great Britain. According to the statement, the coalition will be purely defensive.
The document notes that European countries have seen an increase in the threat posed by ballistic missiles and the importance of further strengthening missile defense capabilities for the security of the continent. For this purpose, it is planned to rapidly develop ballistic missile defense capabilities within the framework of the main project called “Flagship Project”.
The statement also notes that coalition members intend to form common ballistic missile defense capabilities for Europe by bringing together their defense industry, research and development potential, and operational experience.
The document specifically emphasizes that Ukraine's unique defense experience gained during Russia's military operations is of great importance for this project.
Within the framework of the coalition, it is planned to develop common operational requirements, create joint technical working groups, define clear management mechanisms, and prepare a roadmap leading to initial operational capabilities. In addition, the parties plan to support joint research and development projects, explore financing opportunities, and expand the exchange of data and information.
The statement emphasizes that the coalition serves to ensure the security of member countries, not against other nations. It is noted that the initiative is open to other states that share the same principles and goals. (AzerTac)
