In a word, the resolution of the European Parliament can be characterized as a diplomatic disgrace and a diplomatic failure.

Modern.az reports that Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said this in a statement to journalists.

“First of all, it should be noted that the decisions adopted by the European Parliament have no importance for the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Republic of Azerbaijan has no obligations to this institution. Secondly, the European Parliament is not an institution with a special mandate to express a position on such issues institutionally. Who or which states have given such a mandate to the Parliament institution of the European Union to make such statements about regions and countries located outside the borders of the Union.

From this point of view, those decisions as a whole are not important for us. However, this process is an indicator of certain tendencies. The Republic of Azerbaijan is taking serious steps towards ensuring lasting peace and security in the region. As can be seen, serious steps are being taken by Azerbaijan in the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process towards the formation of the economic benefits of peace, including contributing to Armenia's energy security.

In such a situation, a diplomatically disgraceful resolution is adopted by the European Parliament one day after the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Armenia. These people in the European Parliament should understand that they are directly hindering the peace process. We evaluate this as destructive and provocative steps,” Hikmet Hajiyev noted.(APA)
