Turkey's Ministry of Internal Affairs has declared a "yellow" alert level across the country.
Modern.az reports with reference to local media that, according to meteorologists, severe weather conditions, unusual for May, are approaching the country.
According to forecasts, winter-like snowfall, heavy rains and storms may be observed in various regions of Turkey. Especially in Istanbul, strong winds and storms are expected from today.
In the southern and southeastern regions of the country, the risk of floods and inundations increases due to intensive precipitation. One of the most striking points is the possibility of snow and frost in mid-May. Meteorologists report that sleet will fall in the high mountainous areas of Central Anatolia and the Aegean region.
It was stated that the risk of icy roads is particularly high in Ankara, Eskişehir, Afyonkarahisar and Konya.
Experts warn that this situation may cause disruption of plans for both local residents and tourists. Icy roads in central regions, and sudden floods and "muddy rains" due to wind-borne dust may be observed in southern provinces. Mersin and Antalya are also among the cities in the risk zone.
According to the Turkish press, although changeable weather conditions in May are considered normal, it is rare for snow to be observed in the center of the country and storms in large cities at the same time.
