A public opinion poll was conducted in Armenia by "Breavis" company, commissioned by the US "International Republican Institute" organization.
Modern.az reports that in the survey conducted among 1511 citizens, 491 participants supported Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his "Civil Contract" Party. The number of those who supported the "Our Way" Party and Samvel Karapetyan was 93. The survey also included respondents who supported the "Armenia" bloc and former president Robert Kocharyan.
According to the research, 29 percent of respondents stated that they trust Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. 27 percent of these people indicated him as their first choice, and 2 percent as their second choice.
Businessman Samvel Karapetyan ranked second in the survey. 8 percent of respondents said they trusted him. Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan were also on the list. The indicator of those who trusted former president Robert Kocharyan was 4 percent.
One of the striking results of the research is the distrust of a large part of the respondents towards politicians. Thus, 40 percent of the participants answered "I don't trust anyone", and 13 percent had difficulty answering the question.
Participants were also asked the question: "Is Armenia moving in the right or wrong direction?"
According to the results of the survey, 61 percent of respondents said that the country is going in the right direction. 28 percent expressed the opposite opinion, and 11 percent had difficulty answering or did not disclose their position.
Significant differences were observed in the results according to party preferences. 95 percent of the supporters of the "Civil Contract" party led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia is moving in the right direction.
The situation is different in the opposition camp. 86 percent of the supporters of Robert Kocharyan, the leader of the "Hayastan" bloc, and 83 percent of the supporters of Samvel Karapetyan, the representative of the "I Have Honor" bloc, believe that the country is being governed in the wrong direction.
Although 45 percent of undecided respondents said that the country is in the right direction, 32 percent noted the opposite.
In the public opinion poll conducted in Armenia, indicators of trust in politicians were also investigated by age groups.
According to the survey results, the highest trust in Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was recorded among respondents over 56 years old. 45 percent of participants in this age group stated that they trusted him.
The indicator of those who trusted Pashinyan in the 36-55 age range was 26 percent, and in the 18-35 age group, it was 15 percent.
In the survey, the level of trust in businessman Samvel Karapetyan was 10 percent among respondents over 56 years old, 7 percent in the 36-55 age group, and 8 percent among young people.
The indicators of former president Robert Kocharyan and other politicians remained low in all age groups.
The research also showed that distrust in politicians is high, especially among young people. Thus, 53 percent of respondents in the 18-35 age group answered "I don't trust anyone". This indicator was 45 percent in the 36-55 age group, and 23 percent among people over 56 years old.
The survey also asked about the attitude of Armenian citizens towards relations with the European Union. 75 percent of the survey participants supported the country's possible membership in the European Union.
