In the Czech Republic, the dismissal of the parliament speaker is demanded due to his speech on Ukraine.
Modern.az reports that opposition parties in the lower house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic intend to initiate a vote on the resignation of Speaker Tomio Okamura, leader of the anti-immigrant Freedom and Direct Democracy party. The reason for the vote was Okamura's New Year's speech, in which he sharply criticized the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Okamura stated that he "sends money belonging to Czech pensioners, disabled people, and families with children to buy weapons and continue a completely meaningless war".
He accused Kyiv's partners of profiting from the production and sale of weapons on credit and called the entourage of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a "junta" where "money flows everywhere". Furthermore, the Speaker of the Czech Parliament accused the EU leadership of moving towards World War III.
Vit Rakušan, leader of the centrist liberal "Mayors and Independents" party, wrote on the social media site X that Okamura's "reprehensible" words are "the responsibility of the entire government and, unfortunately, a disgrace for the entire Czech Republic". The leadership of the center-right Civic Democratic Party called the speaker's speech an unacceptable example of manipulation and intimidation that "causes irreparable damage to the Czech Republic".
Tomio Okamura, a prominent nationalist with far-right views, was elected Speaker of the Czech Parliament thanks to the support of his partners in the new ruling coalition – billionaire Andrej Babiš's ANO movement and the "Motorists for Themselves" party.
