The possibility of the US using a hypersonic missile against Iran for the first time has emerged.
Modern.az reports that, according to Bloomberg, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has proposed deploying the “Dark Eagle” hypersonic missile system to the Middle East to target Iranian launch facilities located outside the range of existing military assets. However, no final decision has been made on the matter yet.
According to the information, if the decision is approved, it will be the first deployment of a hypersonic missile in real operational conditions in US history.
The “Dark Eagle” system is distinguished by its high technological features. The missile has a flight range of over 2700 kilometers (1725 miles), exceeds the speed of sound by more than five times, and has maneuverability to overcome modern air defense systems.
It is reported that the cost of each such missile is approximately 15 million US dollars, and currently, the number of these types of missiles is limited.
