Militants launched a series of attacks on several cities in Mali
Modern.az reports that, according to Reuters, armed attacks were carried out in several cities in Mali on Saturday morning.
According to the information, among the targets of the attacks were northern cities where government forces and Russian military personnel are stationed. According to a statement released by the army, the settlements subjected to attacks included Anefis, Aguelhok, Gao, Sevare, and Keniyoroba.
It is reported that rocket strikes were carried out and powerful explosions occurred in various regions.
According to Mohamed Almaouloud Ramadane, a representative of the Liberation Army (SLA), militants entered the city of Anefis. Government forces and military personnel of Russia's Africa Corps, who had previously withdrawn from the strategically important city of Kidal, were stationed in that area.
In the city of Gao, local officials reported that rocket and artillery attacks on the military camp continued early in the morning.
A resident of Sevare told Reuters that after morning gunfire, four consecutive powerful explosions occurred in the western part of the city.
Keniyoroba is home to a prison where members of Mali's political opposition are held. It is not yet known whether the prison was the main target of the attack.
The Azawad Liberation Front, led by Tuaregs, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
It should be noted that the same group, together with a regional branch of "Al-Qaeda," attacked the airport in the capital Bamako in April of this year, resulting in the death of the country's defense minister.
Reuters notes that the latest attacks indicate that the military leadership in power in Mali has failed to fulfill its promises to ensure security in the country.
