Birth rates in Azerbaijan continue to decline.
Modern.az, based on the official report of the State Statistical Committee, states that 38,836 children were born in the months of 2025 (January-May), and 28,631 babies were born in the months of 2026 (January-May).
Thus, the number of births decreased by 10,205 people (approximately 26%) for the same period in just one year. The birth rate per 1000 people, which was 9.2 in the first 5 months of 2025, decreased to 8.5 in the corresponding period of 2026.
It should be noted that in the first five months of 2024 (January-May), a total of 43,317 newborn babies were registered by the district (city) registration departments of the Ministry of Justice.
Demographic indicators show that the number of children born in Azerbaijan this year will be approximately 75-80 thousand. This gives reason to say that the birth rate in the country will be the lowest since 1947.
