British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Dutch counterpart Rob Jetten signed a £2.4 billion ($3.2 billion) maritime partnership agreement on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
Modern.az reports that this is stated in a statement by the British government.
Under the agreement, British and Dutch armed forces will acquire new amphibious transport ships.
"By combining the UK's industrial expertise with the Netherlands' design and maritime experience to create first-class platforms for our elite amphibious forces, we will strengthen NATO," said Keir Starmer.
It was clarified that each country will receive four ships, which will form the basis of the strengthened British-Dutch amphibious forces. With a length of approximately 160 meters and a displacement of 15,000 tons, the ships will be able to carry military personnel, equipment, supplies, and unmanned systems.
It was noted that the ships will have flight decks specially designed for the operation of modern and future long-range drones, as well as autonomous systems.
