It has been confirmed that the Iranian national football team will participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Modern.az reports that FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated this during his speech at CNBC's "Invest in America" forum.
According to him, the Iranian team will definitely participate in the World Cup:
"We hope that by then the situation will be peaceful. The Iranian team must come. They represent their people, they have passed the qualifying stage, and the players want to play."
It should be noted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada and will start on June 11. The Iranian national team is planned to play all its group stage matches in the USA. The proposal to move these games to Mexico was rejected by FIFA.
It is worth recalling that in March, Iran's Minister of Sports stated that the team would not participate in the tournament.
Infantino emphasized that sports should remain separate from politics:
"We live on Earth and understand the realities. But bridges need to be built and maintained - and that's what we are trying to do."
