The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia announced the signing of a framework agreement between Armenia and the United States on TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity).

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan did not specify the timing of the possible ratification of the document and the stages of project implementation after the agreement comes into force.

The announcement of the signing of the framework agreement between Armenia and the United States on TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) draws attention to several points. One of them is that Armenia will no longer be able to avoid the Zangazur corridor, and the other is that the Pashinyan government is confident of being elected. Because by taking on this responsibility, the current government sends a message that it can ratify it tomorrow.

In a statement to Modern.az, former Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that the signing of the framework agreement on TRIPP by official Yerevan and Washington is an indicator that the Pashinyan government feels comfortable before the elections:

“Of course, the signing of the agreement on TRIPP between the US and Armenia is an important issue. However, this document still needs to be ratified in parliament. Most likely, the agreement will be ratified after the elections. I think the signing of this document is an indicator that the Pashinyan government feels very good before the elections. That is, they show that they will win the election and then be able to ratify the document. It is a positive thing that Pashinyan feels very good before the elections.”

The former minister thinks about the parliamentary elections to be held in Armenia as follows:

“I think Pashinyan's party can win the elections. The most interesting nuance is how Moscow will react to this. Moscow says that the Pashinyan government wants to establish closer cooperation with the European Union. These ideas are put forward despite Pashinyan saying several times that rapprochement with Europe does not mean leaving the Eurasian Economic Union and that the first visit after the election will be to Moscow. With this, Pashinyan wants to calm the Russian authorities. The striking issue is what steps Moscow will take after the elections.

By the way, regardless of who wins the June 7 elections in Armenia, the Zangazur corridor is already an inevitable reality. But if the scenario changes and revanchists come to power, if they do not send the signed document for ratification, the document will simply die on its own. At one time, Turkey and Armenia signed a document on opening borders. But then the Turkish government did not even send the document for ratification. If revanchists come to power in Armenia, even if the document is signed, it may disappear.”

The former minister emphasized that if Armenia withdraws from the issue of the Zangazur corridor due to a change of government, it will be pressured:

“Of course, in such a case, there will be one hundred percent pressure mechanisms against Armenia from the US and Azerbaijan. Because the signing of the document is not a simple matter. I think positively about the Zangazur corridor. In short, sooner or later the Zangazur corridor will be opened.”
