The Norwegian Nobel Institute announced that the Peace Prize cannot be given to someone else, following statements by Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado that she might give her 2025 award to US President Donald Trump.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that the statement reads: “The facts are clear and well-established. Once a Nobel Prize is announced, it cannot be revoked, shared, or given to others. The decision is final and remains in effect indefinitely.”
The award was given to Machado for her efforts in defending democratic rights in Venezuela and promoting a peaceful transition from authoritarian rule to democracy. In an interview with Fox News on Monday, she stated that giving the award to Trump would be an act of gratitude from Venezuelans for the US's intervention in their country.
On January 3, the US leader signed off on a successful military operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
Regarding the statement by the Venezuelan Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Donald Trump said: “I hear she wants to do that. That’s a great honor.”
