Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed efforts towards building a peaceful future in the South Caucasus and called on the international community to take these processes as an example.

Modern.az reports that the Turkish President addressed the participants of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul.

In his speech, the Turkish leader touched upon the processes in the South Caucasus and stated: “We welcome the steps taken towards building a peaceful future, peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus and hope that this process will be an example for the whole world.”

President Erdoğan expressed his gratitude to the representatives of approximately 155 countries who came to Istanbul.

According to him, the Inter-Parliamentary Union has been playing an important role for 137 years and contributes to the development of parliamentary democracy within the framework of the slogan “Democracy for Everyone”.

“I highly appreciate the mission of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which aims to promote initiatives aimed at expanding dialogue and cooperation opportunities, ensuring peace and justice,” the Turkish leader emphasized.

At the same time, the politician drew attention to the crisis in the current system of international relations: “The international system formed 80 years ago by the victorious countries after the Second World War is experiencing a serious legitimacy crisis today. The values and principles that form the basis of this system are losing their meaning and validity.”

The Turkish President expressed his regret that the binding norms of international law are losing their effect and new war crimes and crimes against humanity are committed every day in the world.

“In a situation where common sense is abandoned, dialogue mechanisms are paralyzed, and diplomacy and negotiations are replaced by weapons, no one can consider themselves safe,” he added.

The Turkish leader emphasized that the main priority in Ankara's foreign policy is the peaceful resolution of conflicts, regardless of where they occur.

“It is absolutely clear that no model in which the countries of the region are not the main actors can respond to the issue of ensuring peace and security,” Erdoğan said.
