Russia objected to the candidacy of Viktor Soghomonyan, former press secretary of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, for the position of head of the Union of Armenians of Russia.

Modern.az reports that Armenian media spread information about this.

V. Soghomonyan headed Kocharyan's office from 2008 to 2023 and is considered a close associate. According to the Armenian media, Moscow explained this decision by the importance of the organization's leader being outside of politics and capable of working with all groups.

The head of the Russian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Yezras Nersisyan, is actively participating in the discussions. He has his own candidate to replace the current leader Ara Abrahamyan. That candidate is expected to be presented on April 24 at an event dedicated to the memory of the "genocide" victims.
