The US has declared a state of emergency, citing Cuba as a threat to national security.
Modern.az reports that the White House has issued the relevant decree by the country's leader, Donald Trump.
"I find that the situation with respect to Cuba constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States. I hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat," the text of Trump's executive order stated.
The US leader emphasized that "the Cuban regime cooperates with numerous hostile countries, including Russia, China, and Iran, as well as transnational terrorist groups and malign actors hostile to the United States."
"The imposition of additional ad valorem duties on products from countries that directly or indirectly sell or otherwise supply oil to Cuba is proposed," the US leader's decree stated.
The document instructed the US Department of Commerce to identify countries that may supply oil to Cuba:
"If Cuba or another country within the scope of this order takes significant steps to address the declared national emergency and adequately supports US national security and foreign policy efforts, I may modify this decision."
