Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated in a phone conversation with US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff that the country's supreme leader has agreed to talks with Washington.

Modern.az reports that Israel's “Ynet” publication disseminated this information, citing a high-ranking Iranian official.

According to the information, the phone conversation between the parties took place on March 19. It is reported that the Iranian side wanted to show the US at what level decisions are made in the country and to emphasize that Araqchi represents the government.

The publication writes that the terms of the talks are the same as in previous discussions. Thus, Iran is ready to discuss the removal of enriched uranium from the country, but does not plan to abandon its nuclear program and ballistic missiles.

It is also noted that the Iranian side agrees to the swift end of the war, but this is considered possible within the conditions put forward by Tehran.

US President Donald Trump, on March 23, announced that talks were underway between Washington and Tehran, describing them as very good and productive. According to the information, Trump, for this reason, instructed the Pentagon to postpone the planned strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure for 5 days.

However, official Tehran denies holding any direct talks with the US. According to the “Axios” publication, Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan played a mediating role in the possible talks between the parties. The foreign ministers of these countries held separate meetings with both the US and Iranian sides over two days.
