Iran has warned of the risk of a digital disaster for the Gulf region.
Modern.az reports that "Tasnim" spread information about this.
According to the information, sources close to SEPAH stated that serious consequences may arise if the underwater telecommunication cables located in the Strait of Hormuz are damaged.
It was noted that the simultaneous failure of these cables could lead to the disconnection of the Internet connection of the Gulf countries and a large-scale “digital disaster”.
It was stated that seven main cable lines pass along the bottom of the strait, connecting the Persian Gulf countries with data centers in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. For diplomatic reasons, the route of these cables passes through Omani waters.
Experts, including the Stimson Center, note that approximately 15 percent of global data traffic passes through this route, making the region strategically vulnerable for the US and its allies.
