There has been no peace in Armenia since the first day of independence.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He commented on claims that there was peace in Armenia until the current government came to power in 2018, and that the current government brought war with its actions.
“We had war, because every year there were dead and wounded. Where have you seen peace where soldiers are killed and wounded? We did not have peace, we had constant war and constant postponement of the start of war. The deadline for this postponement was announced with the April War of 2016. But it is very important that before the April War, a completely new package of proposals for the settlement of the Karabakh issue was presented, and this package is already known to all of us, and has also been published,” Pashinyan said on the eve of the start of the election campaign of the “Civil Contract” Party.
According to him, the framework for the settlement of the Karabakh issue was determined back during the Lisbon Summit in 1996, and by that time the Karabakh issue was already considered resolved.
Pashinyan stated that all these delays and postponements were primarily aimed at resolving the issue of Armenia, that is, preventing the creation of the Armenian state.
“We understood exactly this, and we understood very quickly that Armenia was trapped. Our task was to get Armenia out of this trap. At the cost of the sacrifices and losses we made, we got Armenia out of this trap, and that is the main thing. Those who say that the sacrifices were in vain do not understand that it was Armenian statehood that emerged from this trap,” Pashinyan said.
According to him, the scenario facing them in 2018 was that the Republic of Armenia would not be a sovereign state; at best, it was intended to remain in the status of a banana state that “received permission to breathe” from various places.
