Today, the election campaign for the parliamentary elections to be held in Armenia on June 7, 2026, has officially started.

The campaign period will last until June 5.

The Central Election Commission has registered 19 political forces to participate in the elections.

Modern.az reports that former president, chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan is not participating in the elections.

It should be noted that Serzh Sargsyan, who was the third president of the country, was re-elected as the chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia at the congress held on April 4 this year.

Serzh Sargsyan announced that his party will not participate in the elections.

He stated that although the Republican Party of Armenia refuses direct participation in the elections, it will continue to remain at the forefront of political events in the country.

Sargsyan noted that the non-participation of the party he leads as the third president in the elections does not mean giving up the struggle.

According to him, the party decided not to participate in the elections in order not to further divide the opposition camp:

“We are not participating in the elections so that the opposition forces are not further divided. The votes of our voters are not lost, they will join the votes of the opposition. This decision was not easy to make.”

Sargsyan stated that the Republican Party of Armenia supports all opposition forces.

It is predicted that the main struggle in the elections will be between the “Civil Contract” Party (chairman Nikol Pashinyan), the “Strong Armenia” Bloc (leader Samvel Karapetyan), and the “Armenia” Parties Bloc (leader Robert Kocharyan).
