German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul have strongly condemned the crash of a Russian drone into a residential building in Romania.

Modern.az reports that in a statement shared on the X platform, Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized Germany's solidarity with its NATO ally Romania: “The drone crash in Romania once again demonstrates Russia's readiness for escalation. Germany stands with its NATO allies. This incident once again shows the need for a strong NATO presence on the Alliance's eastern flank. We are ready to defend NATO territory.”

The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a number of officials also condemned the incident, stating the importance of taking existing threats on NATO's eastern flank seriously.
